Flynn, Moore, Upson honored
LSU quarterback Matt Flynn, Vanderbilt cornerback D.J. Moore and Commodores punter Brett Upson were named Southeastern Conference players of the week on Monday.
Matt Flynn threw a 22-yard touchdown pass to Demetrius Byrd with 1 second left to lift No. 3 LSU to a 30-24 win over Auburn.
Moore had eight tackles and two interceptions in Vandy's 17-6 win at then-No. 6 South Carolina.
The offensive lineman of the week was Arkansas center Jonathan Luigs, while defensive line honors went to Florida end Jermaine Cunningham.
Alabama cornerback Kareem Jackson was the freshman of the week.
Hall shredding defenses, Tide record book - D.J. Hall was coming off one of the best games of his Alabama career against Ole Miss, and Tennessee's defensive backs were promising he wouldn't have a similar performance against them.
They were right. He was better.
Few opposing defenses have managed to contain the 22nd-ranked Crimson Tide's offensive star, quietly having a record-setting season and now leading the Southeastern Conference with 764 receiving yards. Already Alabama's all-time leading receiver, he had 185 yards on a school-record 13 catches in Saturday's 41-17 victory over the Volunteers.
Even though he's the Tide's go-to receiver and not exactly a well-kept secret, Hall has shredded the opposing secondary two weeks in a row. He has 24 catches for 325 yards in the past two games.
Tranghese says officials made "terrible" mistake on fair catch - Steve Kragthorpe isn't dwelling on a blown call by officials in last week's 21-17 loss to Connecticut. The Louisville coach is focusing on helping his team forget a tough loss in a season full of them.
Big East commissioner Mike Tranghese called Louisville athletic director Tom Jurich on Sunday, saying the referees erred during a disputed punt return for a touchdown by the Huskies early in the third quarter.
"It certainly doesn't change anything that happened on Friday night," Kragthorpe said. "It was a factor in the game, but it wasn't the only factor in the game."
The Cardinals (4-4, 1-2 Big East) were leading 7-0 when Cory Goettsche punted. Connecticut's Larry Taylor moved under the ball and waved his right hand above his head, appearing to make a fair catch signal.
But when Taylor caught the ball, he began running to his left and raced untouched 74 yards up the sideline for a touchdown. Several Cardinals had slowed, thinking the play was over when Taylor made the catch.
A livid Kragthorpe protested, saying the play should have been blown dead when Taylor raised his arm.
