Q & A with Matt Flynn
Q: Florida quarterback Tim Tebow gets mobbed wherever he goes. What's it like being the starting quarterback at LSU?
Matt Flynn: It's pretty nice. I try to stay at home as much as possible and stay low-key. But we have such supportive fans. When I do go out and get stopped at a restaurant or somewhere, everyone is very encouraging.
Q: What has it been like replacing JaMarcus Russell, who was the No. 1 overall pick last April in the NFL Draft?
Matt Flynn: Anytime you're following a guy like JaMarcus, it's big shoes to fill. I know I'm not JaMarcus Russell. I just play within myself. I've always had confidence in my ability.
Q: Did you expect to be ranked No. 1 at this point in the season?
Matt Flynn: We don't really talk about that stuff. We knew we were ranked pretty high coming into the season. But that doesn't really matter now. We've just got to focus each week on how to get better as a football team.
Q: You're from Tyler, Texas. What made you decide to cross the border and come to LSU?
Matt Flynn: I grew up in Big 12 country, in earlier days, the Southwest Conference. In the SEC, it just seemed bigger, the passion of the fans, the atmosphere. I knew every week I was going to get a chance to play against the best players in the country.
Q: Did seeing Florida get upset by Auburn last week serve as a wake-up call to your team, that any team can lose anywhere?
Matt Flynn: I don't know if it was a wake-up call because we know it's a tough conference. Every week we're going to practice and prepare to face a great team. I think everyone here realizes that.
